Welcome . . .

welt 2

In this increasingly confused and chaotic world, First Church offers a quiet sanctuary for reflection, devotion, learning and service  - a place to find your spiritual bearings, a place that strives to bring Christ’s shared affections to all of life.

When recently asked, our membership described First Church this way: "strong mission outreach," "wonderful music," "committed pastoral care" and "dedicated lay leadership."  Our ministries are indeed as rich and varied as is our membership.

We hope you will take the time to view our website carefully and that you might join us for worship.  We will welcome you from the heart, even as we pray your experience amongst us is one of meaningful, hope-filled, Christ-centered love.

 Rev. Thomas C. Leinbach, Pastor

From Bach to Bernstein and more . . .

The First Congregational Church (UCC) of Harwich Center is pleased to welcome Marcia Hempel as our new Music Director/Organist.  We are excited about the immense talent and energy she brings to First Church.

Marcia has been Music Director at The Nantucket Unitarian Congregation since 1996.  Her extensive choral direction has included work with both children and adults.

She has studied organ at the N.E. Conservatory, piano and voice at the R.I. Conservatory and choral conducting at Westminster Choir College, to name just part of her extensive training.

Her interests are eclectic, ranging, as she puts it, “from Bach to Bernstein,” and including the jazz organ!  She plays the guitar as well.  In addition to her church work, Marcia leads private singing and piano lessons for children and young adults.  Founder of the Women’s Chorus of Nantucket, she also has experience in local theater.

Please join us in welcoming her to our music ministry.
